Sting 2013: 30th Anniversary

Lady Saw
Sting 2013 was a vast improvement over last year’s lackluster show. The organizers out did themselves by balancing the show with many new talent, veteran artists and American rappers for the 30th anniversary. The production was excellent with great lighting and sound.

The venue was packed to capacity by 1 am. Jamaicans and other fans had the opportunity to view the show live via pay-per-view for 4 hours.

The crowd got their money’s worth and enjoyed the anticipated performance of Super Cat who had not performed in Jamaica for many years. Movado was also well received after being low-keyed in Jamaica since his signed contract with DJ Khaled and We the Best Music.

Lady Saw “tun up di tings” on Macka Diamond after her solo performance. Already got the crowd riled up and in her favor she destroyed Macka Diamond to win the female clash.

Heavy weights and veteran artists Super Josey Wales, Brigadier Jerry & Admiral Bailey gave a memorable performance followed by Buro Banton, Peter Metro and Major Mackerel. Major Mackerel was interested in a clash with Elephant Man who was absent according to the organizer.

American rapper Wyclef Jean received lots of forward from the crowd but his compatriot 2Chainz failed to please. Jean called for the release of Vybz Kartel and Buju which gave him a huge forward.

Beenie Man never failed to deliver. At one point D’Angel accompanied him and then two little boys who too were like the self-proclaimed King of Dancehall - highly entertaining. Ninja Man followed and was propositioned by D’Angel for a clash and he refused.

The anticipated DJ male clash lived up to its expectation. Kip Rich the defending champion of the Clash was surprised by the underdog Black Ryno. Kiprich was ready for battle decked out in his military outfit wanting Mad Cobra’s head instead he was blown apart with lyrics from Black Ryno who won US$
30,000 and  gladly took the defending champions belt.

How sweet it would have been if Tessanne Chin had performed too.
