Claude McKay


Claude McKay - born in  Clarendon, Jamaica. A world  renown writer and poet. Famously known poem "If we must die"  















Harry Belafonte

Born in Harlem to Jamaican mother. Lived in Jamaica with his maternal grandmother in his earlier life. Actor, songwriter, social activist and singer. Helped to popularize Calypso in the America and is known for his famous song "Banana Boat Song".

Louis Farrakhan
Leader of Nation of Islam (NOI). Born in the Bronx of Jamaican father. He served as assistant minister to Malcolm X at the NOI and was also a mentor of Malcolm X up to the time he was assassinated. He went on to fulfill two of Malcolm X's role in the NOI. He left the NOI which was changed to the American Society of  Muslim when the founder and leader Elijah Mohammed passed and his son took over. He restarted the NOI.




Patrick Ewing

Born in Kingston, Jamaica.A retired Hall-Of-Fame basketball player, he played for the New York Knicks for 15 years  Patrick is currently the associated head coach of the Charlotte Bob Cat. He is also an Olympic Gold Medalist.


Sheryl Lee Ralph

Busta Rhymes




Born In Brooklyn, NY to Jamaican parents. Busta is a 11 times Grammy nominated  artist.  He has published 10 albums throughout his career and has also appeared in 10 films/movies/TV Series. He has also been nominated 14 times by MTV Video Music Awards.


Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, of Jamaican mother and partially raised up in Mandeville, Jamaica. Tony Award nominated actress has appeared in approximately 20 films too include "Sister Act 2", "The Flintstones", "The Distinguished Gentleman, and "The Mighty Quinn. She has appeared in 31 television shows to include Moesha, Hannah Montana, Smash, Tyler Perry's House of Payne, and Instant Mom. She has also appeared on seven Broadway shows. The actress/singer has released 6 singles and an album throughout her career.
Colin Powell



Born in New York, NY to Jamaican parents. General Powell is a United State Statesman. He served in the U.S. army for 35 years and served as Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff. Powell was also the Secretary of State under President George Bush administration. 



Christopher G. Wallace aka Notorious Big



Born in New York, NY to Jamaican parents. A four time Grammy nominated  rapper.   Billboard 1995 Rapper of the year and rap single of the year. Source 1995 Rapper of the year, lyricist of the year, album of the year, and live performer of the year. MTV 1997 Best Rap Video, and Soul Train Best R & B Soul Album. In his short life he released two studio albums, and 1 collaboration album.



Grace Jones



Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica. She is an actress, singer, and model. Grace has grace the cover of many international magazines to include Vogue, Elle, and Stern. She has also worked with many fashion houses. Jones has released 11 albums between 1977 and 2008. Has appeared in over 19 movies, TV series, and films this include Boomerang, A View to Kill, and Shaka Zulu.
